WA; Teen drowns in attempted rescue

PERTH, Jan 2 AAP - A teenaged boy drowned at Perth's popular Cottesloe beach just 20
minutes after lifesavers finished patrols on New Year's day.

The 17-year-old boy was attempting to help another teenager, reportedly his brother,
when he also became caught in a rip about 5.20pm (WST) yesterday.

"Unfortunately, he became caught in a rip and was later bought into shore unconscious
by ... members of the public," Surf Lifesaving Western Australia spokesman Grant Trew
said.
